Exfoliation is key to achieving a flawless tan. It removes dead skin cells to ensure smooth coverage, even fading, and longevity of the tan. To exfoliate properly, use exfoliating gloves or washcloth, a non-moisturizing, transparent body wash or oil-free scrub, and gently exfoliate in an overlapping circular motion. Do not over-scrub as this may scratch and irritate the skin. Avoid bar soaps and ultra-moisturizing body washes, such as Dove and Oil of Olay, as they tend to leave a film on the skin that affects absorption and development of the tan. Exfoliate after you shampoo and condition your hair.
Skin should be clean, dry and free of skin care products such as lotions, moisturizers, body oils, perfumes, make-up, and deodorant. These products can act as a barrier and affect the tanning process. Deodorant on the skin may also cause a temporary green discoloration. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to arrive make-up and deodorant free, our prep spray primer will help remove product residue.
Shave at least eight hours prior to your spray tan. Shaving shortly before your tan exposes your pores and may leave your legs looking “freckled” after your tanning session.
Manicures, pedicures, and hair appointments should be completed before spray tanning. Facials, massages, waxing, and body wraps are recommended at least 24 hours prior.
Have dark, loose fitting clothes and flip flops to wear after your appointment. If rain is in the forecast, bring an umbrella and wear clothing to cover/protect your tan. Cover your car seat with a towel to prevent possible staining, especially leather seats.
AFTER YOUR TAN...
Wait to shower for 8-12 hours. While your tan is developing, avoid contact with water and any activity that may cause you to perspire. Abstain from excessive touching, rubbing, or scratching. Do not apply any skin product on the skin such as lotions, perfumes, oils, etc. before your first shower.
During your first post-tan shower, the cosmetic bronzer will wash off leaving you with a beautiful sunless tan. Avoid long, hot showers/baths and use a gentle, alcohol free cleanser. Bar/deodorant soaps are not recommended. Pat dry with a towel instead of rubbing.
Shaving is a form of exfoliation and can shorten the length of your tan. When you do shave, use a sharp razor, shaving cream or conditioner, and a light-touch pressure.
Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturizing is essential to a smooth, longer lasting, even-fading tan. Apply a nourishing moisturizer twice daily, morning and night. Do not use oil based products such as baby oil or tanning oil.
